4 pitfalls when trying to shed fat

Avoid these pitfalls when trying to lose fat:

  1.       Overestimating your daily calorie expenditure.
A Canadian study from 2010 showed that normal weight individuals overestimate their energy expenditure during exercise by 3-4 folds. When asked to precisely compensate for exercise energy expenditure with food intake, the resulting energy intake was 2 -3 folds greater than the measured energy expenditure of exercise.

2.       Underestimating your calorie consumption.

You might think that during those 30 minutes spent on the treadmill you will have spent a lot of calories when in fact you have only spent the calorie equivalent of a TWIX candy bar.

3.       Snacking throughout the day.

This will add “sneaking” calories.

4.       Using food as a reward (after exercise).

Rewarding yourself with food is not a good idea if you are trying to limit your calorie consumption. Reward yourself in other ways. See my post about Maintaining your drive for the long haul for ideas.
