Home vs. gym
May 16, 2011
Some people like working out at home. It’s comfortable and convenient. There is an increasing number of home exercise equipment out there (The Rack, Shakeweight, Ab Belt etc.) catering to those who prefer to exercise at home. But can a simple piece of equipment be a good substitute for a full-scale gym?
The developers of home exercise equipment make promises of strong, muscular arms, and chiseled abs or your money back. Take The Rack Workout Station. Do you think something that looks like grandma’s walker will get you in shape? For the cost of this equipment you can pay for a gym membership for 6 months. I’m not saying that all types of home exercise equipment are useless. I do think that with a chin-up bar, an ab-wheel and a jump rope you can have a decent workout at home. Nevertheless, there is nothing that will build your legs like some heavy squats, deadlifts and lunges. Unless you have a power rack at home your lower extremities will not reach their full potential as far as strength and size goes.
No single piece of equipment can substitute the variety of facilities found in a gym. Don’t spend your money on fitness fads. Invest in a gym membership and design a solid exercise program. It delivers.
